Fermented vegetables are delicious, loaded with probiotics, and easy to make at home. Mason jars are the perfect vessel to ferment in: they're easy to find, fit perfectly in kitchen cupboards, are dishwasher safe, and versatile. That's why Masontops created an entire suite of products for fermenting vegetables in Mason jars, including Pickle Pipes. If you don't already have Mason jars, you can order some here.

Pickle Pipe airlocks are the easiest way to vent fermentation gas. The one-way valve automatically releases gas, without letting in any oxygen that can cause spoilage, so jars don't have to be babysat and manually burped daily. We recommend using this product with fermentation weights, like our Pickle Pebbles. If you're a beginner and also want recipes, checkout The Complete Fermentation Kit

    Awesome Idea

I am enjoying using the pickle pipes. I used to have to burp my jars or leave the lid only partially on. These make it so easy and convenient.

    Fermentation without contamination

I used to weigh my veggies down in the jar with a plastic bag filled with water. The water filled bag would seal the jar -sort of. The jar would have to be placed in a tray because as the fermentation progressed, water would bubble up and leak out of the top of the jar. Sometimes this was a successful method, sometimes not. Contamination or early spoilage sometimes happened. On a whim, I bought a Masontops jar, silicone lid with air lock feature, tough plastic ring, and heavy glass weight. It just seemed like a better and safer method. I was a little disappointed that the jar was not a quart, but I made the curry kraut recipe on the masontops website exactly as written, and it turned out perfectly to fit the jar. I was fired up to do more fermentation, so I ordered a set of silicone tops, rings, and pebble weights ( I have quart canning jars). The silicone lids let gas escape without letting airborne contaminants in. The setup also doesn’t leak out the jar, so there’s no mess. I’m sold on Masontops for fermentation and inspired to keep experimenting.

    So easy and fun!

I bought the starter kit for my husband but he keeps making kimchi and I wanted sauerkraut, so he told me I had to get these! Now we have sauerkraut on the way AND tons of kimchi!
