After our recent poll question in The Weekly Ferment Facebook Group revealed that many of you haven't ever tried kombucha yet, we felt compelled to share more about this delicious, gut-healthy fermented drink. Prepare to be captivated by the fascinating details and join in the conversation!

If you want to incorporate more fermented foods into your diet or if you're not keen on fermenting veggies but still crave those gut-healthy bacteria, kombucha might just be the ideal choice.

👉 Let’s dive a little deeper into what kombucha is and what makes it awesome for your gut health!

KOMBUCHA is a fermented beverage with a tangy, tart taste and is made through a fermentation process with sweet tea and a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast).

It is an ancient drink from 221 BC, originating in China. Fun fact: It was referred to then as “Tea of Immortality”. That already sounds convincing to give it a try! 😄

Kombucha is really good for gut health due to its natural fermentation process, which results in the production of probiotics.

These beneficial bacteria help restore and maintain a healthy balance in the gut microbiome, supporting digestion, nutrient absorption, and immune function. Additionally, kombucha contains organic acids, enzymes, and antioxidants that contribute to gut health and overall well-being.

Kombucha can be easily found in most grocery stores, but we all know that nothing can beat the freshness and customization aspect of homemade foods, which also applied to kombucha!

It takes time to brew your own kombucha and we understand that not everyone can make it at home. In that case, researching the kombucha brands available in your area and looking into the nutritional values on their packaging might be a good guide on which store-bought kombucha to pick.

🙌 But if you are up for the challenge of brewing your own, we’ve got a Kombucha Making Starter Kit that includes all the essentials that you will need to make this gut-healthy drink. You only need a few additional items that most likely, you already have in your home/pantry.

Once the tea is fermented into kombucha, it can be flavoured in oodles of combinations. Which is a really fun part of the process! 🤤
