Hibiscus Cold Brew Tea Recipe

Tart, naturally caffeine-free, and beautifully vibrant, hibiscus cold brew tea is perfect for a refreshing summer drink.

Hibiscus is naturally rich in plant compounds, including antioxidants such as anthocyanins, which give the tea its deep red colour. Research suggests hibiscus may support heart health, including healthy blood pressure, as part of an overall balanced lifestyle.

With the Masontops Cold Brew Kit, making hibiscus tea is simple: add your dried hibiscus flowers, fill with water, let it steep in the fridge, and enjoy a smooth, refreshing herbal tea without any boiling required.

Why Cold Brew?

Cold brewing is a gentler way to make hibiscus tea (or any tea). Instead of using boiling water, the dried flowers slowly infuse in cold water, creating a smooth, refreshing flavour with less bitterness and a naturally bright, fruity taste.

The Masontops Cold Brew Kit makes the process simple because you can brew, store, pour, and serve right from the same Mason jar setup.

How to Drink Hibiscus Cold Brew Tea

Hibiscus cold brew tea is delicious on its own, but it’s also easy to customize. Try it:

  • 🌺 Over Ice: Pour your hibiscus cold brew over ice for a simple, refreshing drink.
  • 🌺 Lightly Sweetened: Hibiscus has a naturally tart flavour, so a little honey, maple syrup, or simple syrup can balance it beautifully.
  • 🌺 With Fresh Fruit: Add orange slices, berries, pineapple, or pomegranate seeds for a colourful fruit-infused drink.
  • 🌺 With Sparkling Water: Mix hibiscus cold brew with sparkling water for a simple, non-alcoholic spritz.
  • 🌺 Hibiscus Probiotic Soda Option:Turn your hibiscus cold brew into a naturally fizzy probiotic-style soda. Use it as the flavour base for a ginger bug soda.

Hibiscus Probiotic Soda

You’ll need:

  • 1 cup hibiscus cold brew tea

  • 1/4 cup active ginger bug liquid, strained

  • 1–2 tablespoons honey, maple syrup, or simple syrup

  • Filtered water to top off

To make:

Add hibiscus cold brew, strained ginger bug liquid, and sweetener to a fermentation-safe bottle. Top with filtered water, leaving 1–2 inches of headspace. Seal and let ferment at room temperature for 1–3 days, checking daily for carbonation.

Once bubbly, refrigerate well before opening. Open slowly over the sink, as natural carbonation can build pressure.

The result is a tart, floral, naturally fizzy drink with beautiful colour and refreshing flavour.
