Kombucha is a fermented beverage enjoyed for its powerful health benefits and unique flavour.
Want to learn how to make your own using tea, sugar and a SCOBY? Are you ready to say goodbye to the expensive store bought kombucha?
Then keep reading, this article is for you!
STEP #1: Make SCOBY aka “the mother”
This first step takes between 1 - 4 weeks.
The SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast) is the mother of the kombucha, and it provides bacteria and yeast to help in the tea fermentation process. It also provides a loose seal that keeps a bit of the carbonation in, and protects the tea from outside contaminants.
SCOBY is the very essence of kombucha, without it there is no flavor and no magic!
TheMasontops Kombucha Making Starter Kit is the easiest way for beginners to start brewing their own homemade kombucha. It provides the instructions and ingredients needed to activate the SCOBY into a healthy, live culture.
With proper care, the SCOBY can then be used to ferment endless amounts of kombucha with the Masontops Kombucha Brewing Lid, a Mason jar, and some sweet tea.
Mason jars are a perfect vessel to ferment kombucha in because they don't take up much counter space, they fit easily in the fridge, and they can even serve as a drinking glass once the kombucha is ready.
STEP #2: First fermentation
This first fermentation is where you actually make the kombucha, and takes around 6 - 10 days.
STEP #3: Second fermentation
The second fermentation is where the real magic happens, and takes between 3-10 days.
